With each passing week, streamer and Complexity member Timothy “TimTheTatman” John Betar’s NFL prediction curse becomes more real.
In the past, the streamer has been known to make sports-related predictions. Tim frequently tweets his predictions for who will win a particular game or match, ranging from the UFC to the NFL. Those predictions almost always end up being the polar opposite of what actually happens. While TimTheTatman has been mocked in the past for making incorrect predictions, the “curse of TimTheTatman” became a reality on Sunday when he completely obliterated any chance the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers had of making the Super Bowl.
The AFC Championship Game pitted the Cincinnati Bengals against the Kansas City Chiefs, while the NFC Championship Game pitted the San Francisco 49ers against the Los Angeles Rams. Tim made two predictions this time, the first of which appeared to be a safe bet going into the game: the Chiefs were the heavy favorites in the AFC as the reigning conference champions. They were up against a Bengals team that hadn’t won a Super Bowl since 1988, and Kansas City was a touchdown favorite at most sportsbooks.
Tim chose to predict a Chiefs victory over the Bengals. He even declared on Twitter that he would prove that he was not a jinx when it came to sports picks. This came after he picked two teams to win the week before and they both lost.
Tim seemed to finally get a prediction right after one half of the Chiefs/Bengals game. Kansas City led 21-3 and appeared to be on their way to a third consecutive Super Bowl victory. The Chiefs began to fall apart in the second half, almost as if a curse had begun to take shape. The Bengals clawed their way back after Pro Bowl quarterback Patrick Mahomes started throwing interceptions and taking terrible sacks.
The game was decided in overtime. The Chiefs were given the ball first and had to win by a touchdown. Patrick Mahomes threw another uncharacteristic interception almost immediately. TimTheTatman’s followers began to believe in his jinxing abilities around this time. The Bengals used the interception to kick a field goal and win the game for the first time in 34 years, advancing them to the Super Bowl.
That game represented the pinnacle of Tim’s erroneous predictions so far. It continued, however, when the Los Angeles Rams defeated the San Francisco 49ers a few hours later, going against Tim’s weekend predictions as well. Prior to making his prediction today, Tim stated several times that the 49ers would make it to the Super Bowl.
TimTheTatman has an uncanny ability to predict the opposite of what happens in the sports world, especially the NFL, whether it’s bad luck or a true jinx. Fans of any sports team can now only hope that Tim does not pick their favorite team to win or that his luck changes.
The streamer has already sought advice from others who have previously experienced sports slumps.
