Twitch streamer Imane Anys aka Pokimane recently sent a tweet encouraging people to stop underestimating somebody’s accomplishments because of their gender, race, sexuality, or other characteristic features.
The internet personality sent out the tweet yesterday, November 5, saying that there was no specific context for it. However, the Twitch star has recently witnessed people “gate-keeping specific interests, games, and even certain degrees,” according to her.
According to Pokimane, people tend to criticize others based on a variety of characteristics that have nothing to do with their accomplishments. While the meaning is clear, Pokimane may have sent the tweet in response to a number of recent events.
Poki has stated that her tweet was not intended to be taken out of context. The internet star, who was hailed as a feminist icon by some, seemed to imply that women are often excluded from certain hobbies, games, and even degrees.
Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) degrees were cited by the 25-year-old, who said that women are frequently advised that the degree(s) is/are not suitable for them. Most in the community felt she was referring to the limited options accessible to women around the world, as the tweets implied. Others criticized Poki, claiming she was talking about something she didn’t understand.
