According to a streaming study, Twitch streamers Hasan Piker, Minecraft’s GeorgeNotFound, and popular Spanish star Ibai all played key parts in Just Chatting’s return on Twitch over the previous three months, as the category climbed back into its original top rank on Amazon’s platform.
Just Chatting, a prominent Twitch category for non-gaming streams, saw its popularity plummet earlier this year, slipping behind two other titans: GTA roleplaying broadcasts and Riot’s world-famous League of Legends. Now, thanks to multiple blockbuster Twitch events led by Ibai Llanos, GeorgeNotFound, streamer meetup “Shitcamp,” and political star Hasan Piker’s ever-increasing prominence, the category has reclaimed first place, raking in an amazing 708 million viewing hours between July and September.
The popularity of the category resulted in it receiving over 51 million more hours viewed than GTA, and it surpassed League of Legends by 265 million hours.
During an interview with Barcelona footballer Gerard Pique, Ibai received a massive 196,000 viewers, while GeorgeNotFound received over a quarter of a million viewers during a Tommy Innit live meet-up. Hasan is also attributed with the success of the category; his channel accounts for up to 3% of all viewing hours in Just Chatting.
Popular games like CSGO and Warzone are noticeably absent from the top ten. New World, a blockbuster Amazon release, narrowly missed the criteria for inclusion.
Just Chatting’s meteoric rise through the Twitch category ranks has been nothing short of amazing, especially in the last twelve to eighteen months.
Twitch’s non-gaming programming has grown by 233.7 percent in the last two years, from 274 million hours seen in 2019 to 914 million in Q3 2021. Twitch reached a new peak earlier this year, surpassing one million hours viewed in June. The ASMR subcategory and Sports streams are included in this. According to a report issued earlier this year by Streamlabs, Just Chatting accounts for at least 12% of all total views on the Amazon-owned site. That’s a sizable chunk of the website’s billion hours seen every three months.
Twitch streamers Pokimane, Hassan, Amouranth, Mizkif, and Ibai Llanos are some of the popular streamers in the Just Chatting section.
