The rivalry between YouTube and Twitch has heated up in the last year, with many well-known streamers switching platforms. With Sykkuno the latest to abandon ship, Disguised Toast predicts that more will follow.
In 2021, YouTube took significant steps to compete with Twitch by persuading celebrities like TimTheTatman, DrLupo, and Ludwig to switch platforms. This was, of course, following Dr Disrespect’s mysterious Twitch ban in 2020, when he joined YouTube.
In addition to its growing streamers, YouTube now has exclusive broadcast rights to CDL and OWL, bolstering its esports presence.
While there are still some issues that fans would like to see resolved, such as the clips system, YouTube continues to strive and has recently added Sykkuno to its roster. However, it appears that there may be a lot more to come.
Toast addressed Sykkuno’s move to YouTube in a Twitch broadcast on May 2nd, claiming that he knows he won’t be the last to do so.
While the streamer did not reveal who the five would be, he did provide some insight into Sykkuno’s deal, explaining that he and Ludwig were in talks with YouTube at the same time.
However, it’s possible that whoever the five are, YouTube was in discussions with them as early as last year. We’ll have to wait and see who is the next to abandon ship, but expect a lot of speculation in the Twitch community in the meantime.
