100 Thieves is working on their own video game codenamed Project X, so here’s everything we know about it so far, including the genre, platforms, engine, and more.
It was only a matter of time before streamers started making their own games, with Dr Disrespect and his studio Midnight Society creating a AAA game that he claims Modern Warfare 2 can’t match, and MMORPG streamer Asmongold‘s OTK Network collaborating with ex-World of Warcraft devs to create games.
On May 16, 100 Thieves, Matthew ‘Nadeshot‘ Haag’s gaming organization with teams in some of the most popular esports, announced that they are developing Project X, their own video game.
Nadeshot and 100 Thieves President and COO John Robinson sat down in a video on June 16 to announce their lead developer and give more details on Project X.
Project X is an upcoming shooter from 100 Thieves, a gaming company.
It should come as no surprise that Project X is a shooter, given Nadeshot’s history in Call of Duty and love for Valorant, but they haven’t said whether it’ll be an FPS or a third-person shooter.
In a June 16 Q&A with fans, Nadeshot ruled out the possibility of a mobile game, saying that it would be “mostly like console and PC, with PC being the priority.”
Before deciding on a genre, John Robinson said they knew they wanted to focus on “competition, really tight controls, customization, game depth, and longevity.”
Project X is merely a codename for the shooter that will be used while it is still in development. Pete Hawley, who worked on Fable, Burnout Paradise, and Little Big Planet with some of the biggest studios in gaming, is in charge of Project X’s development.
They explained in their June 16 video that 100 Thieves is still hiring more developers, but that the game will be developed with the input of their creators, professional players, and community.
They want players to get their hands on the game as soon as possible so that everyone feels like they’ve been on the journey when it’s released.
According to Hawley, who is now the Chief Product Officer, the engineering team is already coming together, so more Project X developers should be announced in the coming months.
Project X will be built on Unreal Engine 5, the same engine that will power Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 and CD Projekt Red’s next Witcher game, according to Nadeshot.
Unreal Engine 5 allows small developers like us to quickly create amazing high-fidelity games, according to Robinson. Project X will not be released any time soon, according to Nadeshot, who stated that it will take a long time to develop.
Pete Hawley, who has been with 100 Thieves for about two months, explained that they are still in the conversation stage of the project, brainstorming ideas and eliminating everything they aren’t doing.
Professional players and content creators will be the first to play the game before it is released to the general public, because they want to get it into the hands of the community as soon as possible, playtests are likely to happen before the official release, but don’t expect them for a while.
