He has two cats, Aloha and Ivy.
Once he went to a friend’s house to play an alien-killing game and needed to come up with a name. His friend had his Spanish workbook open and suggested SenorFelizMono (MrHappyMonkey), so he did so and later shortened and translated it to MrHappy.
mrhappy1227 grew up playing video games. Although he had already played Final Fantasy V- X, with his first being FF VIII he was introduced to Final Fantasy XI in 2002 by his friend when he went over to his house and saw him playing it on his PlayStation 2. Without even playing it, he fell in love when he discovered that it was an MMO. So, he then went home and begged his parents to buy him the game for his birthday. However, when they discovered the price, the said that it would have to be both a birthday and Christmas present. He was very disappointed when he got home and discovered that it was also subscription based and required broadband. His parents were not interested in paying a monthly subscription. But they changed their minds a few months later when he discovered that AOL was enough. That marked the beginning of his 7-year addiction to the game. This also acted as the gateway to the other Final Fantasy and other MMO titles that he has gone on to play since. Some of these include World of Warcraft and Ragnarök Online I & II.
After high school, he went on to study at the Newark College of Engineering for three years, followed by a year are studying Nutrition. However, he never completed his degree. He then went on to work in desktop support in NYC.
He originally began streaming on Twitch and uploading Let’s Play videos to his YouTube channel on March 13, 2013. He started with SimCity before moving on to other titles as well. However, it was a couple of weeks later on March 29, 2013, that he realized his niche after he had the idea to begin creating Final Fantasy XIV tutorials when he realized that there was not much content available about it at the time. He did not really expect people to watch it, but they did attract attention, so he continued doing it in a more structured way. Soon afterwards, he lost his job, and so began dedicating more time to content creation. This included livestreaming on Twitch more frequently.
A big break came for him when he auditioned to takeover AtheneLIVE’s night slot for his 24-hour charity streams and passed. He did ii while wearing a Kermit the Frog mask and doing a voice impression of the character. Although he did it because he truly believed in the cause and had been donating himself, this 10-day stint really gave him a boost so that he hit the 1000 subscriber mark on YouTube. AtheneLIVE then told him how to apply for the streamers union, which helped him to get signed with Cursed.
His language isn’t always clean.
