Thomas “Sodapoppin” Morris is regarded as one of the best streamers. He is regarded by many as a World of Warcraft legend and a pioneer of early livestreaming. He is also a co-owner of NRG Esports.

Sodapoppin started his streaming career before most others, airing his first stream in 2008 on the defunct livestreaming platform Xfire before switching to Twitch in 2012. Since the change, he has risen to become the platform’s 10th most popular channel and is regarded as one of the best streamers of all time.

The Twitch star experienced exceptional early growth on the platform, in part because he had already built up a sizable and devoted following through Xfire. Up until early 2015, Sodapoppin spent most of his time streaming World of Warcraft to thousands of viewers on Twitch. Then the seasoned streamer took the risky decision to leave the game that had given him his record-breaking success.

Fortunately for Sodapoppin, the decision to broadcast games other than World of Warcraft paid off, leading to the streamer’s latest growth spurt on Twitch. He has since played many different games, but he occasionally returns to the one that first made him famous.

After more than 14 years in the livestreaming industry, Sodapoppin has recently become less competitive with his streams, not caring about viewers or offering the best content possible. Even though it is a little lower than his 20,000 average from last year, he has been able to maintain a respectable average viewership of more than 15,000.

A true variety streamer, he plays almost any Steam game that catches his eye. Since the beginning of 2012, the creator has continued a tradition known as “Shit Show Saturday” in which he plays any games his viewers choose, though these days he chooses games from a list compiled by moderators of his Twitch chat.

Sodapoppin occasionally logs back into World of Warcraft. Whether it’s to play an Iron Man challenge, run some old dungeons with friends, celebrate the release of Classic or a new expansion, or just for fun, the star always finds a reason to stream his favorite game.

Aside from WoW, Sodapoppin is well-known for his Warcraft III custom game stream and his GTA V roleplay streams in which he portrays Kevin Whipaloo. Additionally, Sodapoppin is recognized as the streamer who popularized Among Us in 2020.

According to TwitchTracker, the top four games that Sodapoppins streams are World of Warcraft, Warcraft III, Dead by Daylight, and Grand Theft Auto V.

Sodapoppin occasionally streams on his additional “Skippypoppin” Twitch account, but these broadcasts typically feature him with his camera and microphone off. He frequently works with fellow streamer and VTuber Veibae and plays League of Legends and Divinity: Original Sin on this channel.

Sodapoppin earned a staggering $1,461,302 between August 2019 and September 2021, making him the 43rd highest-earning streamer on the platform during that time, according to the massive Twitch earnings leak in 2021.

Since Sodapoppin has been streaming on Twitch since 2012 and the Twitch earnings leak does not include sponsorships or direct donations to the streamer, his actual earnings from the Amazon-owned platform are probably much higher. The streamer is also a co-owner of NRG Esports, so the company probably pays him a sizable salary.

Sodapoppin also has a YouTube channel with over a million subscribers where he frequently uploads stream highlights, though it is unknown how much money he makes from it. The video that has received the most views on Twitch belongs to a broadcast that Sodapoppin did in 2017 during which Mia Khalifa briefly interrupted his stream. Due to the actress’s fame at the time, the clip received a ton of attention.

Due to his extensive experience amusing viewers during streams, Sodapoppin continues to hold the title of one of Twitch’s most well-liked content creators. Sodapoppin still manages to amuse any viewer who happens to stumble upon his stream with hilarious moments and soothing gameplay despite having lost most of his interest in being the best streamer he can be.

Since many of Sodapoppin’s fans have been following him for many years, there is a strong sense of loyalty between him and his fanbase, which helps the Twitch veteran maintain a high viewership count.

The fact that Sodapoppin resides in Austin, Texas, and frequently collaborates with other top streamers there, including Mizkif, xQc, Asmongold, and others, also contributes to his popularity. As a result, the star is constantly receiving new followers.

Sodapoppin triumphantly returned to Twitch in April 2022 after his two-week suspension, but he soon took a long break and admitted to his fans on Twitter that he didn’t “feel like” streaming. Since that time, Sodapoppin has resumed playing a variety of games while occasionally streaming on Twitch.

After 14 years of daily entertainment for thousands of viewers, the Twitch veteran has repeatedly admitted to fans that he doesn’t enjoy streaming nearly as much as he used to. Despite this, Sodapoppin never takes extended breaks from livestreaming, and fans can only hope that he will soon reignite his old flame.

Regarding upcoming events, Soda participates in in-game shows made by streaming organization OTK as well as in-person collabs they host, though none have been officially confirmed.
