As YouTube snatches more Twitch streamers — Ludwig and TimTheTatman are two recent examples — other popular Twitch streamers are being asked if they would make the same leap. Pokimane is one of the streamers who has been asked this question, and she explained why she always chooses Twitch during a stream on November 30th.

Pokimane has obviously had a lot of success as a Twitch streamer, which has allowed her to do things like establish a $100,000 scholarship fund for student gamers. Pokimane, on the other hand, made it clear that one factor influenced her decision to stream on Twitch rather than YouTube.

That was two years ago, when Pokimane had to choose between Twitch and YouTube. She chose the platform where she would have the most fun, not which platform would give her the most money or which platform would be nicer to her.

Pokimane went on to say that she enjoys Twitch chat and culture far too much to switch to YouTube. YouTube has reportedly been able to secure top talent by paying them a large sum of money, but it doesn’t appear that the platform will be able to convince her to switch sides unless she decides to go global.

Pokimane went on to say that her Twitch contract is up in two years and that she has big plans after that. Pokimane stated that she may go “solo” and begin traveling the world, at which point she may stream on whatever she wants to get her content out there, or she may focus solely on YouTube to gain a mainstream audience. However, that could take some time. She stated that when she decided to join Twitch, she wanted to have a good time, and her fans and viewers provide her with that.

Pokimane did not seem too committed to any specific future plans, but the internet and streaming culture can change dramatically in just a few years. By the time she’s ready to move on, YouTube may have overtaken Twitch, or Twitch may have imploded. Regardless, she appears to be content to stick with her current platform for at least a few more years. Few major streamers would make a decision based on fun rather than money, but Pokimane appears to have done just that.
