OnlyFans, the app most known for its adult-only content, said it will now prohibit sexually explicit photos and videos. OnlyFans is a content subscription service based in London. Content creators can earn money from users who subscribe to their content—the “fans”.

It allows content creators to receive funding directly from their fans on a monthly basis as well as one-time tips and the pay-per-view feature. OnlyFans allows its more than 2 million creators to share exclusive content with their paid subscribers. Many of the top creators on the platform, which has 130 million users, sell nude or sexually explicit photos and videos. Many sex workers have relied on revenue from the site over the last few years, especially as the pandemic took hold and it was more difficult for them to earn a living elsewhere.

Recently, they have announced that they are planning on banning the “sexually-explicit content and it will start on October 1st stating; “OnlyFans will prohibit the posting of any content containing sexually explicit conduct. In order to ensure the long-term sustainability of the platform, and to continue to host an inclusive community of creators and fans, we must evolve our content guidelines.”

According to OnlyFans, creators will continue to be allowed to post content containing nudity as long as it is consistent with our Acceptable Use Policy. Posts can show off body parts, but doing anything explicit means they will be in violation and any breach “may lead to your account being suspended or terminated, and access to your earnings being revoked.”
