A potential sponsorship that would have sent the Just Chatting star to Saudi Arabia for a Fortnite charity event was swiftly withdrawn by well-known Twitch streamer Mizkif.
Twitch Streamer Pokelawls leaked an email inviting him to a sponsored Fortnite event in Saudi Arabia on June 29th. The streamer explained that the email mentioned that OTK co-founder Mizkif and fellow OTK creator Emiru planned to attend.
Saudi Arabia has frequently been charged with “esports washing” in an effort to divert attention from the country’s ongoing humanitarian crises both at home and abroad. Fans blasted Mizkif right away for initially accepting the sponsorship.
Just minutes after the information leaked, Mizkif went live on Twitch and insisted he was unaware of any national controversies.
Mizkif called prominent political streamer Hasan minutes into his livestream to get his take on the situation. Mizkif was informed by Hasan of Saudi Arabia’s involvement in the Yemen Civil War and other domestic conflicts. Mizkif and the former Young Turks reporter had a lengthy discussion before Mizkif ultimately decided to cancel the sponsorship.
Mizkif has made the decision to completely withdraw from the anticipated event, but it is still unknown whether Emiru or any other OTK members plan to attend the event, which is scheduled to start soon. Tfue hasn’t responded to the invitation in any way.
The details of the official event, which will take place in Saudi Arabia, are still unknown, and its planners have not publicly commented on Mizkif’s abrupt departure or the criticism in general.
