The cult-favorite Dungeons & Dragons show, Critical Role, has entered Twitch history with the start of its long-awaited third season, surpassing site superstars like xQc, Summit1g, and Shroud in the process.

The new Critical Role season eventually began in October. After Season 2 finished in spectacular fashion, fans of the long-running Dungeons & Dragons series were eagerly anticipating the promised return to Marquet, and the show’s new campaign delivered in abundance. The long-running D&D program, which began as a side project for many voice actors in 2015, has now marched its way into Twitch history.

Critical Role passed Shroud (101k), xQc (82k), and Summit1g (94k) on Twitch this month, gaining 111,000 subscribers in the process. Following Ranboo, Ninja, and reigning king Ludwig, who has a 283k highwater mark after a memorable Twitch subathon earlier this year, the episodic D&D series is now fourth on the all-time Twitch subs leaderboard.

Given the fact that November has only just begun, Critical Role has a chance to surpass Ranboo, who is only 5,000 subscribers ahead of them.

The total number of subscribers, 111,309, is also the highest for any shared Twitch channel. In January 2019, GamesDoneQuick came closest with 46k.

After debuting on the GeekAndSundry channel six years ago, Critical Role has quietly grown into a big powerhouse on Twitch over the last few years. The GeekAndSundry page gained a lot of fans when the program originally started in 2015, and when Matt Mercer and Marisha Ray decided to go solo with Critical Role in 2018, their newly-founded channel gained a lot more followers.

Critical Role’s YouTube channel now has over a million subscribers.
