Activision has come under fire for allegedly copying a fan’s artwork for the new Warzone Floof Fury skin after the artist drew attention to the startling similarities between the two.
Call of Duty: Warzone has jumped right into the cosmetics game with a ton of skins for weapons, characters, vehicles, and plenty of other buyable add-ons, just like every other battle royale on the market.
While many of these skins are exclusive to Activision and a few are the result of cross-overs with other well-known franchises, there is one new skin that has generated some buzz.
An artist who created a similar design more than two years ago has been recognized for the Floof Fury skin, which was unveiled alongside the Warzone Season 4 Reloaded update. The concerned artist, Saillin, noted the resemblances between the new Warzone skin and their Samoye Medical concept, which was published on ArtStation back in December 2019.
The fact that the skin assumes the shape of a dog is undoubtedly the most obvious comparison between the two, but there are others as well. The CoD cosmetic, as the artist points out, has a gun strapped to the character’s back that is identical to their own, as well as a scarf around the neck and a satchel on the hip, all in the same style and color scheme.
Many Warzone fans have expressed their sympathy for the artist and urged Activision to make amends. However, some have argued that cosmetics shouldn’t even be made available. The artist hasn’t provided any additional updates as of this writing, and it’s unclear what the developers will do about it.
