100 Thieves has released a free-to-mint NFT to commemorate their League of Legends world championship, and some of their fans aren’t pleased.
100 Thieves won the LCS 2021 championship trophy in the summer of 2021, defeating Team Liquid in the process.
To commemorate their victory, 100T presented commemorative jackets and diamond chains to their League of Legends players and staff on February 1, 2022.
To commemorate the occasion, the company has distributed free special edition NFTs featuring the design of the chains given to their players all over the world.
They began receiving negative feedback about the product shortly after announcing it.
Fans have been complaining about 100 Thieves’ use of the blockchain since they revealed their completely free-to-mint Polygon-based NFT. A video from Nadeshot explains why they decided to launch the NFT alongside the tweet.
Other users responded that they mistakenly believed the org was sending them free physical chains, and that they regretted claiming it once they realized they weren’t getting anything.
100 Thieves co-owner Jack ‘CouRage‘ Dunlop also responded to a fan who congratulated them on their new product.
While many “hoodie org” fans have expressed distaste for the product, others have genuinely supported their use of cutting-edge technology to provide fans with a piece of memorabilia to show their support for the League Of Legends team.
Those concerned about the environmental impact of these NFTs should know that minting one of these collectibles is the equivalent of sending two emails, according to Nadeshot.
The digital item is free to claim and is available now through February 5, 2022.
