A new streaming service called Odysee aims to be a suitable option to both YouTube and Twitch by launching a brand-new website powered entirely by crypto.
Some streaming platforms such as Twitch and YouTube are, of course, the biggest names in the game when it comes to internet streaming. They aren’t the only ones, however.
Odysee, which started in late 2020, is one of the newest streaming services available. Unlike Twitch or YouTube, they want to shake up the traditional video/streaming site architecture by using bitcoin also, the LBRY cryptocurrency is essentially what keeps things running. Users may earn credits just by joining up and doing various chores on the site, but you’ll need a specific number to start streaming.
If you don’t want to stream, you may still use LBRY to tip creators, claim your username, or even cash out your earnings – as long as you have enough.
According to the founders, LBRY and by the extension, Odyssey were created as a direct competitor to Youtube and Twitch. These platforms can and will demonitieize creators at will, as we’ve seen in recent months.
The protocol’s official website claims LBRY intends to offer an alternative to these sites. Enabling direct interaction between publishers and their fans without the fear of demonetization or other meddling.
To join up for Odysee, you’ll need a valid email address, and once you’ve completed your registration, you’ll receive a sliver or LBRY to get you started. Clicking through the site will earn you more modest gains to get you started, which you may use similarly to Twitch bits for creators, or pay out yourself, as we said.
If you’re interested in Odysee or just want to try something different than YouTube or Twitch for a change, the site’s information section is a great place to start.
As more creators compete with these two major video and streaming services, they may decide to switch to totally different platforms. Odysee incorporates crypto unlike any other streaming service we’ve encountered, so it’s worth keeping an eye on.
