After being underground for months, former Fortnite pro and well-known streamer Tfue emotionally announced his extended hiatus from streaming in an emotional video.

In addition to being one of Twitch’s most popular broadcasters, Turner ‘Tfue’ Tenney is one of the most well-known Fortnite creators and players in the game’s history. Tfue has been making content for years, but Fortnite’s popularity really took off in the late 2010s, catapulting him to internet celebrity. By the summer of 2023, followers had noted that he had been inactive on social media for almost two months, with his last Instagram postings and recorded Twitch streams occuring in April. It wouldn’t take long until Tfue reappeared with an explanation for being offline and what his content’s future held.

Tfue posted a tearful video named simply “Goodbye” to YouTube on June 20. The Fortnite player wept as he reflected on his career in professional gaming and content creation in the roughly 40-minute-long video, but he also admitted feeling “stuck” in his streaming career. “I just need to go live my life,” he explained. “Who knows if I’ll be back, man? I mean, maybe, who knows. I just need time to get away, just to go live my life. I used gaming to escape from reality, and I feel like now I use reality to escape from work. I just feel kind of trapped sometimes, you know? It’s been fucking hard, streaming f*ckin’ six, eight hours a day. I don’t have time to do sh*t. I just need to take time off, you know? I’m f*ckin’ 25, and I feel like the majority of my life has been in front of a screen. I wouldn’t take it back for the world, but I feel like I just need a break. I just need to escape for a little bit.”

It’s not yet known if or when Tfue will return. But no matter what he decides, his followers and fellow creators are giving their support. Names like Clix, CouRage, and others flocked to comment on Tfue’s most recent move, praising him for his many years of experience in the game and sending their best wishes for his future endeavours. This is not the first time a content producer has made the decision to leave their work; in the past, influencers like Marzia Kjellberg and even Jenna Marbles left their positions to pursue other opportunities.
