Martin ‘Rekkles’ Larsson, a former G2 AD carry, has left the LEC for Karmine Corp, a French regional team, putting an end to speculation about his next move.
Rekkles officially announced that he left G2.
Hours before free agency began, rumors linking the iconic AD carry to a move to Karmine Corp, the regional French org that had won the last two editions of EU Masters.
When free agency officially opened at 8 p.m. ET on November 15th, the move was one of the first to be announced.
In 2021, Karmine Corp has grown into a regional powerhouse. Back-to-back EU Masters titles, the first team to do so, and a number of players who have joined, or are rumored to be joining, LEC rosters are among their accomplishments.
- Adam ‘Adam’ Maanane, a former top laner, has joined Fnatic ahead of the Summer split in 2021.
- Free agents Jungler Jakub ‘Cinkrof’ Rokicki and AD carry Matthew ‘xMatty’ Coombs are rumored to be joining Team BDS.
- Raphael ‘Targamas’ Crabbé is expected to join G2 as a free agent.
Rekkles joined G2 in the offseason of 2020, but the team struggled and missed Worlds. Following the season, Carlos announced that Rekkles, as well as Martin ‘Wunder’ Hansen and Mihael ‘Mikyx’ Mehle, would be benched as part of a major rebuilding effort for 2022.
While many were surprised by the rumor, Karmine Corp announced the transfer minutes after free agency started.
Rekkles has signed a two-year contract worth $1.13 million, according to Pablo Suárez of Dot Esports and other sources.
The move was well received by fans, who saw it as a win for Karmine Corp and ‘justice’ for Rekkles, who had previously been unable to find a new team due to G2’s inability to do so.
Meanwhile, Team BDS, the LEC’s newest franchise, posted a meme referencing Rekkles’ pedigree as well as the number of LEC academy teams that play in the LFL.
Fans will be excited to see Rekkles in a starting role on a competitive team, whether this is a long-term move or a stopover before he returns to the LEC.
