Felix ‘PewDiePie’ Kjellberg, a popular Swedish YouTuber and one of the most popular Youtube personalities, recently discovered that a huge chunk of Antarctica remains unclaimed and he is willing to take it over.
Felix has reportedly joked about his dislike for Norway for years, so when he discovered that his adversary had claimed a portion of Antarctica and that there was still unclaimed land nearby, he decided it was his.
PewDiePie’s plan to claim Antarctica may have started out as a joke, with the YouTuber declaring: “I’m just going to tell everyone it’s mine.” However, many in his community jumped at the chance to help him realize his aspirations, using social media to spread the word.
Pewds claimed to his viewers in his September 13 YouTube video that comes with the title; “WHY I’M TAKING OVER ANTARCTICA,” that because Norway owns part of Antarctica, he intends to try to claim the rest of the available territory.
PewDiePie frustratedly remarked as he searched for instructions on how to file a claim; “I don’t have time for that. I’m just going to tell everyone it’s mine.” Since then, members of the Floor Gang have taken to social media to spread the message that the Swedish content creator has taken over the rest of Antarctica, resulting in the spread of Pewdiepie’s memes.
When a fan added the creator’s signature wave pattern and his name to the map of claimed territory on Wikipedia, it became one of the most powerful points of influence from the community. There were also lots of memes on his Reddit, including one showing children playing on PewDiePie’s Antarctica property.
Although it’s unlikely that the creator will legally claim the land, many on /r/PewDiePieSubmissions believe it’s merely a well-executed meme.
