A teaser for Amazon’s highly anticipated animated series based on Critical Role has been released.
Amazon Studios teamed up with Critical Role and Titmouse to create an animated series based on their first campaign, The Legend of Vox Machina, and recently released a teaser for the new animated series “My Toothpick!”
In the teaser, the heroes are confronted with the challenge of attempting to open a locked door. During the Vox Machina campaign, the party struggled with this on several occasions.
Critters, as fans of Critical Role are known, are ecstatic to see these characters on screen. The Critical Role team used Kickstarter to fund the project, which was originally intended to be a one-shot animated special. Critters rushed to open their wallets in order to see their favorite heroes on the big screen. The initial goal was quickly met, and the Critical Role team continued to add stretch goals and promise new episodes. The said campaign successfully ended with a total of $11.3 million raised, making it the most successful film or television project ever on Kickstarter.
The Critical Role team planned to use the funds to produce a single 10-episode season, but Amazon Studios quickly noticed how popular the project was on Kickstarter and picked it up, immediately ordering a second season. The news that Critical Role had been picked up by Amazon piqued the interest of Critical Role fans, even more, knowing that they would be getting more of the show than they had anticipated.
Critical Role is a weekly Twitch and Youtube stream in which a merry band of voiceover artists gathers to play a campaign that spans many years and episodes. The new Amazon show is based on the first campaign, Vox Machina. Since that campaign ended, they’ve gone on to play an entire second campaign, this time as the Mighty Nein. They’ve just begun their third campaign.
Matthew Mercer, who plays the dungeon master, is joined by Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, Liam O’Brien, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel, Talliesin Jaffe, and Ashley Johnson in the Critical Role cast.
Critical Role members are voicing their characters in The Legend of Vox Machina, much to the delight of their fans. Vex’ahlia Vessar (Bailey), Vax’ildan Vessar (O’Brien), Keyleth (Ray), Percival de Rollo (Jaffe), Scanlan Shorthalt (Riegel), Grog Strongjaw (Willingham), and Pike Trickfoot (Willingham) are the members of the party (Johnson). Because Mercer did not have a regular character as the DM on the Critical Role show, he will be voicing Sylas Briarwood. The Legend of Vox Machina is even more special for Critical Role fans because the voice actors themselves play their characters.
The Legend of Vox Machina will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on January 28, 2022 in over 240 countries and territories around the world.
