One of the top transgender streamers on Twitch, Keffals, was given a temporary ban in the middle of July that was meant to last 30 days. Keffals was given a 30-day ban after compiling and sharing a number of hateful and transphobic comments she had received from viewers, which Twitch had labeled as “hateful content.” Her fans were furious at the time.

Keffals led a passionate online campaign to reinstate her channel in the days following her Twitch ban. She made several appeals, but Twitch largely ignored them because it believed the claims that she had used offensive language were true.

What it failed to take into account, however, was the fact that Keffals was the target of those hateful insults, which were primarily directed at her on Twitch. It neglected to take into account the fact that Keffals was using those hateful messages to inform her audience about the kind of abuse she endures on a daily basis.

Following her suspension from Twitch, Keffals switched her content to YouTube, where she kept producing videos for her devoted fans. Then, midway through the first 30-day suspension, she got a message from Twitch informing her that the length of her suspension had been shortened.

According to an email that Keffals shared, Twitch reviewed her suspension and, despite concluding that the enforcement was proper, felt that Keffals’ appeal should be accepted and her sentence should be reduced because of the additional context she provided and her acceptance of responsibility for the material shown.

As a result, Keffals seems to have reduced the length of her suspension after acknowledging that she had technically violated Twitch’s code of conduct and after explaining why. It undoubtedly took Twitch some time to catch up, but Keffals fans are happy to see the platform give creator motivations more thought.

As soon as she was reinstated, Keffals celebrated on Twitter by sending a message to her 111,000 followers inviting them to join her on her channel.

Her fans were ecstatic when she announced in a stream on August 2 in the late afternoon that Twitch had pardoned the Keffals community. One of the most well-known trans streamers on Twitch, Keffals’ passing was lamented by the entire online community. The more than 4,000 views her debut stream has already received prove that Twitch made the right choice in reinstating her account early.
