Pokimane has responded to rumors that she is Mexico’s new president after a viral Twitter post went viral. Despite the fact that Mexico’s president, who was elected in 2018, is still in office. Isn’t the internet a strange place to be?
What’s strange about this whole situation is that, as you’ll see, this Twitter account is clearly fake, but people fell for it anyway.
Surprisingly, Mexico’s four-year president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has made no public statements about whether or not this Twitch streamer will succeed him. He most likely has more important things to do. With the whole drug crisis, COVID, inequality, and so on, he’s probably a pretty busy guy.
Pokimane is not the new president of Mexico, and she will never be. For starters, she is Moroccan-Canadian, not Mexican. Folks, these are two different places, though it is admittedly amusing that people fell for this nonsense. With that post, @TheAnything Bot certainly struck gold, with Pokimane even responding to the rumors.
It’s a stretch to imagine Pokimane as President of Mexico. She appears to be socially conscious, but she also lacks political experience, so it’s probably best if she stays out.
Maybe she could spread that message in a political career, given her affinity for holding up “peace” signs with her fingers on-stream and on Twitter.
