According to a recent study by Stream Charts, female streamers receive 22 percent more gifted subs on average than male streamers.
Stream Charts, a livestream data tracking website, published an in-depth study on the gender distribution of Twitch gifted subs. The researchers looked at the subscriber information of 1,500 male and female streamers from “Twitch’s Top by Hours Watched.”
According to the study’s preliminary findings, male streamers have received more gifted subscribers on Twitch this year than female streamers. Male streamers reportedly had 6.15 million gifted subs, while female streamers had 3.36 million.
However, the methodology discovered that the initial data was too heavily skewed, as male streamers accounted for nearly 90% of total hours watched among the selected streamers.
The study used a weighted average to more evenly correlate gifted subs and gender, and to eliminate the variable of a streamer’s individual popularity. When compared to the national average, female streamers receive 22 percent more gifted subs than male streamers.
According to Stream Charts, five of the top ten channels with the most gifted subscribers had female streamers, four had male streamers, and one had both male and female streamers.
Despite the findings, Apex Legends streamer iiTzTimmy far outpaced the next closest streamer in total gifted subscribers, with 26,565 gifted subscribers.
The FPS streamer famously held a nearly month-long subathon that nearly doubled his previous subscriber count, which could be reflected in the study’s findings.
The study looked at a wide range of streamers and came up with some interesting findings about how gifted subs are distributed across gender and language.
