Despite many other Overwatch 2 players claiming it’s a return to form for the series, Dr Disrespect has slammed the brakes on Overwatch revival hopes, claiming the “half-baked” sequel release doesn’t do enough to actually solve the Blizzard title’s ongoing problems and won’t save the franchise.
In the past, the two-time has had a tumultuous relationship with Blizzard’s franchise shooter, but the Overwatch 2 beta may have put an end to that.
Dr Disrespect, like many other high-profile streamers, got his hands on Overwatch 2 early last week. The Doc, unlike many of those same stars, is less than impressed. According to him, the sequel has completely missed the mark and hasn’t done nearly enough to feel like a new installment in the series to justify its existence.
Dr. Disrespect questioned why it took so long to develop Overwatch 2. There are very few updates, aside from several map and hero tweaks—Orisa and Doomfist were two of the biggest changes—and a 33rd character. He believes it was a “overhaul patch” for the first game.
All of this is cause for concern, according to the YouTube streamer, because Overwatch has already experienced several major setbacks since its inception in early 2016. The Overwatch League has struggled to gain traction with fans, and he claimed that streaming the Blizzard shooter between 2020 and two weeks ago was “killing your channel.” There’s no “need” to play Overwatch again, which is a problem.
While Dr. Disrespect may not be pleased with the arrival of Overwatch 2, the Blizzard sequel has piqued the interest of many others. xQc, Moonmoon, Mendo, and others praised the sequel during its first week on Twitch, with over one million viewers.
The invite-only Overwatch 2 beta will run until May 17th if you want to try it out for yourself. Fans must unlock a key by watching four hours of Twitch streams in order to play.
