Popular YouTuber Dr Disrespect recently made hints that he might be taking a multi-year break from the site to focus on his brand-new development studio, Midnight Society.
Midnight Society, the game development studio founded by Dr Disrespect, plans to enter the AAA market with violence, speed, and momentum. He believes it will be a much-needed breath of fresh air for the industry after a period of slow release activity, which has made it difficult for him to find games to stream.
That has increased his motivation to give up streaming and devote himself entirely to the creation of his studio’s upcoming first-person shooter, Project Moon.
On July 14, it happened toward the end of his six-hour stream, because he had “nothing to play,” and that he was getting frustrated.
Fans might be surprised by this, but he has recently been very outspoken about his displeasure with the caliber and state of games today. He even mentioned in a recent YouTube stream that the lack of new games is making him go insane.
Dr Disrespect estimates that if he were to take a break from streaming, it would probably be until the start of 2024. He took a break in order to continue expanding his development studio, as he has experience in the industry even though he may not have prior management experience in a development studio. At Sledgehammer games, he played his last significant role. As the lead designer on a few multiplayer maps for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, he was employed by the company.
For Dr Disrespect and his fans, taking a break from YouTube would be a major change.
