Many streamers love Behaviour Interactive’s online survival co-op game Dead by Daylight, and now it’s getting a board game treatment.

Behaviour Interactive probably had no idea how successful Dead by Daylight would be when it was released in 2016. Much of the popularity of the Sadako Rising chapter can be attributed to the fact that the studio has a breeding ground for the implementation of many classic horror game and movie villains in its IP.

One of the reasons the game has grown in popularity is that it allows fans to play as Silent Hill’s Pyramid Head, Resident Evil’s Nemesis, or even Freddy Krueger, and now it appears that it will be available on a tabletop.

A company called Level 99 is adapting Dead by Daylight into a board game, according to a recent report from Dicebreaker. The team has announced a Kickstarter campaign that will begin on March 29th, and it appears that the full game will be released this year, possibly in October, which would be perfect for Halloween.

In terms of the adaptation, it will continue to follow the video game format of four players vs. one killer. Each player will take a turn and be tasked with drawing “movement cards.” It appears that Level 99 wants players to keep moving, so anyone who does not choose to run during their turn will be unable to interact. The restarting of generators will also be determined by dice rolls, with one being a fail. Unlike in the main game, the survivors will “win or lose together,” according to the developer. The only catch is that none of the licensed killers from Dead by Daylight will appear in the board game.

It’s surprising that there hasn’t been a film adaptation of the popular horror game sooner. Runescape and Dark Souls, for example, have been adapted into board games, with the former set to be released later this year. The turn-based system described for Dead by Daylight sounds like it would be a good fit for the tabletop genre.

Dead by Daylight, the video game on which the adaptation is based, is still a popular choice among Twitch streamers, particularly those who are more into horror.

The hype may have died down a little, but the fact that the studio is still releasing content on a regular basis and that there is a dedicated fan base suggests that it will continue to be a major release for some time.
