A popular League of Legends streamer Simon ‘Thebausffs‘ Hofverberg recently achieved Challenger rank in Korea’s solo queue, putting to rest those who thought his playstyle wouldn’t work in the region.
Over the last few years, Thebausffs has become one of the most popular League streamers on Twitch.
The 22-year-old Swede has amassed a sizable Twitch following, with over 650k subscribers, and is known for his distinct playstyle as well as his unusual pronunciation of his favorite phrases like Shilling and Solo Bolo.
While he’d been a Challenger-level player in Europe for years, he moved to Korea on April 1 with a slew of fellow streamers, including TFBlade and Midbeast, with the goal of reaching the highest solo queue rank in solo duo on the world’s highest skilled server.
He’s now Challenger ranked, having achieved his goal in just over a month.
Baus is well-known for his Inting Sion strategy, in which he equips assassin items such as Prowlers Claw and Youmuu’s Ghostblade on Sion, the traditional tank top laner.
His high-risk, high-reward playstyle, which earns him a low KDA, landed him a ban from League in January 2021, which Riot later admitted was due to an error in the MOBA’s auto-detection system.
Many of his detractors thought he wouldn’t be able to pull it off on the Korean server, where players are known for having much higher mechanical skill at all levels of play.
Despite this, Thebaus reached Challenger rank in Korea on April 24th, only 23 days into his trip. He stuck to his gameplan, hitting Challenger with a 1:1 KDA on Sion, his most popular character.
Thebausffs also managed to average nine deaths per game while still winning 59 percent of the time. Caedrel, an LEC commentator, congratulated Thebaus on his achievement. Baus will undoubtedly be shilling for a long time after achieving Challenger rank.
