An American professional gamer, speedrunner, and Twitch streamer Mychal Ramon Jefferson better known by his online alias, Trihex has been getting backlash for some time now due to his Twitch emote TriHard, appearing on the recent twitch hate raids.
Twitch streamer Trihex is the streamer behind the TriHard Twitch emote. The TriHard emote is used to express emotion for an event that is about to happen or to generate hype. It is the most used emote in the Twitch platform according to Streamelements data. However, the emote has also been involved in controversy because some people use it for racist purposes.
In the past few days, the so-called hate raids against streamers of color have unfortunately been an issue on Twitch for a while now and they started getting out of hand. Many streamers already called out to twitch to take further action to these hate raids.
But then, it seems like, some also took aim at twitch streamer Trihex as he has been receiving backlash because his TriHard emote is often used by the people behind the racist bots. In response to this, Trihex posted a series of tweets discussing the issue.
He wrote; “I have covered this topic about the politicization of TriHard and whether Black People, Women, or Minorities can be depicted & represented without abuse endlessly. I’ve advocated that community leaders (us, broadcasters) remain accountable for their chats and not do anything that resembles ‘Hate Raids’ since before the term was coined.”
He also holds that there’s nothing inherently wrong with TriHard, and says he won’t let people who use it for low-effort bait win. He then posted a followed up tweet stating; “F**k racists. I absolutely do not condone any abuse of a depiction of myself that, in itself, has zero racist qualities (TriHard) My happy smile will not be hijacked as hate fuel to stimulate low-effort bait reactions by shallow, pathetic ppl.”
