Name Origins
According to his FAQ: ‘It’s a short and powerful name. My intent was mainly to use the verb form: trump - v - to excel; surpass; outdo. I consider it the ultimate unlucky RNG that Donald Trump won the presidency.’ The ‘SC’ is from his StarCraft days.
Gaming Origins
TrumpSC was first introduced to video games at his elementary school, where they had a simulation game called Oregon Trail which he really enjoyed. He saw Oregon Trail 2 being advertised in a scholastic magazine and asked his parents to buy it for him for educational purposes. They did so, and he played it for many, many hours. As he neither had an allowance nor received many gifts, he didn’t really have access to games when he was younger.
So, he spent a lot of his spare time participating in the various activities that his mom signed him up for. This included karate, swimming, soccer, drawing and chess. However, chess was the only activity that he really took an interest in. When he was older, he started downloading free games from the internet. Another game that he discovered online was Capitalism, which he also managed to convince his parents to buy for him for educational purposes. But this time the joke was on him, because it resulted in his becoming interest in business.
When he was older, he discovered that it was possible to play video games such as Age of Empires and Warcraft II online with other players and fell in love with the experience. When he moved on to Diablo 2, he began a blog page, where he documented his character’s progress. His introduction to RPGs was Nexus: The Kingdom of the Winds. From there, he moved on to other MMOs and eventually started playing Ultima Online during high school. There, he found out that he could earn real money by selling online real-estate to other players in-game. This made him hope that it might be viable for him to make a living from gaming one day somehow.
He also played a lot of Magic: The Gathering Online in his teens. With MTG, he discovered that he could again buy packs and then sell the cards for real money and so set up his own virtual card shop. He then moved on to Warcraft III, which is when he first dipped into content creation by creating commentaries of his gameplay and uploading zip folders of his recordings online for people to download and watch.
He started playing World of Warcraft the day it released on November 23, 2004 and put many hours into I, especially when he grinded his first character, a holy priest, to level 60 and was one of the first people to do so. From there, he became a guild leader and ran many raids.
After high school, he went on to receive a degree in Finance and Management from New York University School of Business. However, unfortunately he graduated during the economic downturn of the mortgage crisis and found it difficult to find a job. So, he wound up working at Seers as an electronics salesman.
Professional Gaming
It was while he was working at Seers that he made it into the StarCraft 2 beta. He dreamed of making it as a pro, and so started streaming it and grinding it in December 2010. This didn’t work out for him, so he moved on to another fulltime position as a banker while keeping streaming as a hobby on the side. He moved on to Diablo 3 in July 2012. Diablo 3 had a digital market that was more lucrative for him.
So, he risked quitting his job to pursue fulltime content creation, much to his parents’ ire. He then transitioned to League of Legends in early 2013 and other games, including Dyson Sphere Program and MTG Online. However, the real turning point came for his channel when he got into Hearthstone during its beta stage in mid-2013 and quickly gained popularity there. It still took his parents few more years to come around to this decision, though. He started uploading Hearthstone content to his YouTube channel in November 2013.
He tried to keep his streams family friendly.
