With the 11.23 update, the League of Legends Season 12 preseason has begun, bringing new dragons, a slew of Mythic item changes, and all-new objective bounties.
Many players want the comeback mechanic scrapped entirely due to how “broken” it has been in previous Summoner’s Rift games. Riot’s developers, on the other hand, have refused to remove them.
The League of Legends developers have promised that objective changes will be made in order to better balance the new mechanic before Season 12 begins.
Matt “Phroxzon” Leung-Harrison, a senior League of Legends designer, confirmed that the LoL balance team is “currently monitoring objective bounties,” particularly in terms of how early they’re being activated in-game.
The League developer revealed, “We’re planning some imminent changes to objective bounties.” These changes will address bounties turning on with a minor lead, as well as having bounties fall off.
Riot is also investigating why some teams’ bounties aren’t falling off, but warns that the issue is “complicated” to resolve and won’t be resolved until patch 11.24 at the earliest.
They will not, however, give in to early player demands to remove the League of Legends’ objective-based comeback mechanic entirely.
“We don’t expect to get it right the first time,” he admitted.
“I’m confident that the community will pick up on these things and improve their coordination over time; the initial shock of a new piece of content that alters gameplay is always unpleasant, but we’re confident that this feature will improve the game in the long run.”
“We’re not saying that if you make a mistake, the game should be leveled, but when the lead is small, an enormous mistake should equalize [the game].”
The number of turrets broken is based on four factors: each team’s Dragons, gold and experience advantages, and the number of turrets broken.
The new bounties have been triggering on turrets, Baron Nashor, elemental Dragons and Elder Dragons, and both Heralds early in Season 12’s preseason. On top of what the secured objectives would pay players, teams have reported comeback hauls of 2,000 gold or more.
Riot is also making changes to Caitlyn’s mechanics, which are primarily related to the Sheriff of Piltover.
