Pokimane, a Twitch star, responded brilliantly to an internet troll who attacked her for wearing “too much” cosmetics without first checking their own identity.
The most popular female streamer on Twitch and one of the most well-known broadcasters overall is Imane ‘Pokimane’ Anys. Pokimane has amassed quite a sizable fanbase for herself over the years, as well as a few enemies along the way, and currently has over 9 million followers on the website.
Throughout her ten-year career as an internet comedian, Pokimane has dealt with troll criticism, most notably after she went makeup-free during a popular show back in 2018. Following the incident, the streamer received more criticism online from those who made fun of her appearance. She is being criticized this time for wearing “too much” makeup, but she was prepared with the ideal response to put the blame on her critics.
Pokimane was criticized for wearing “way too much makeup” by a viewer using the username “the soft poo” during a stream in December 2022. Anys pounced on the chatter’s nickname right away, making fun of them for choosing such a strange name while being bold enough to be critical of her beauty in front of thousands of people. Poki stated; “I’ma be honest. How does somebody say some sh*t like this — ‘You got way too much makeup on’ — with a username like this? Your name is ‘the_soft_poo!’”
She continued after mods timed out the chatter as a result of his offensive statement, “Nah, you don’t have to time him out. Like, he’s already punishing himself. Look at this f*cking username. What is that? How do you want me to take your opinion seriously when your name is ‘the_soft_poo?’”
This is not the first time she has responded to trolls who criticize her for wearing cosmetics or not. Anys said in a widely shared Tweet in February 2022 that her makeup-free face “makes more money than you’ll ever see in your life,” striking critics with a line that still stings today.
