During a livestream, Minecraft streamer and YouTuber Ph1LzA’s Twitch chat decided to have some fun with him. His viewers pressed him to play ‘Smash or Pass’ during a segment of it.

While the entire stream was full of laughs, Walt Disney and Minecraft’s slime block were dragged into the mix at one point. The streamer then burst out laughing and joked about “disowning” the conversation.

The 33-year-old Minecraft veteran was in the middle of one of his streams when his chat started making fun of him by playing “Smash or Pass,” a popular trend/game.

Although the trend was started by Minecraft streamer and content creator Wilbur Soot and initially included other internet personalities and celebrities, the players’ viewers took a different approach. Inanimate objects such as Minecraft’s ender pearls, “Shrek’s magic mirror,” and various household appliances were added to the mix.

Around the same time as Phil, twitch streamer and Wilbur’s friend James Marriott did a similar challenge on his channel. Phil asked Wilbur and James a question in his stream because they were the ones who had started this chaotic charade.

A viewer says they overheard Wilbur say he’d smash a “mop bucket” in the beginning of the video. Phil then notices what they’re doing and remarks on the pattern. The next eight minutes or so were a complete farce, with viewers discussing increasingly absurd “smash or pass” scenarios.

Phil enjoys the chaotic atmosphere that the trend has created, but as he builds in his Hardcore Minecraft world, he repeatedly and jokingly yells the word “stop.” His viewers, on the other hand, have a different opinion, as evidenced by the increasing number of comments.

A fan gives the streamer 500 bits and a long message, which Phil hears through his automated text-to-speech option around the 4:16 mark in the video. The message asks Phil whether he’d smash or pass on Postman Pat, a popular British cartoon character. Phil responds to the question with a guttural scream, demonstrating his dissatisfaction.

As previously mentioned, one viewer, Wolfy, says, “Smash or pass, that one retired race car turned cop from Lightning McQueen,” causing Phil to snort and joke that the other viewers should “bonk” the fan on the head.

The “smash or pass” options became increasingly ridiculous as the stream progressed.

When a viewer asks if he’d “smash or pass bedsheets,” Phil reaches his breaking point at 4:50. He joked that if smash or pass were to appear in his chat, he would ban them.

After a viewer requested that he use a bot to time people out for saying “smash or pass,” claiming that his “brain was turning to mush,” he agreed and programmed his bot to time anyone who said, “smash” or “pass” out for 20 minutes.

Soon enough, large groups of viewers were being timed out, prompting Phil to laugh evilly and make a witty remark about the chat’s mod bot.

Phil was reminded by his chat that he had not taken into account his mobile viewers, as he laughed hysterically as the bot timed out his viewers. Viewers would have no idea why they were being timed out because the stream was delayed on mobile.

Phil has some more fun with the chat near the end of the stream, timing them out for as little as five minutes just to see how they react. He then exhaled a sigh of relief and pondered his decision to turn off the cameras.

While the majority of fan reactions were in the YouTube comments for the video above, a few people took to Twitter and YouTube to discuss Phil, Wilbur, and James Marriott’s “smash or pass” phenomenon.
