One of the most popular Youtube personalities Felix Kjellberg aka Pewdiepie has criticized the “awful” TikTok trend of dry-scooping before a workout, calling it “a terrible idea.”
Pewdiepie has recently published a video to his channel titled “TikToks latest dumb trend,” which follows the trend of his recent reaction videos. In the video, he discusses an ongoing practice on the short-form video platform in which people take a scoop of pre-workout powder and do not mix it with water as directed.
For those who didn’t know, the Pre-workout is a powder that some individuals take before going to the gym. One scoop of pre-workout can contain as much caffeine as three cups of coffee. This is a risky trend since caffeine and other substances are concentrated until they are combined with water.
According to Newsweek, after chasing more than four dry scoops with mixed forms of the powder, a fitness influencer was taken to the ER with elevated blood pressure and brain edema.
Upon watching the clip, Pewds explained; “I think this has gone for a while actually, but TikTok is now trying to shut it down.”
He then went on to explain a tingling sensation that felt like he was “dying” the first time he consumed pre-workout powder. He added; “Preworkout is really f**kin strong, so of all things to consume without drinking water, it just seems like a terrible f**kin idea.”
Dry-scooping, as previously said, is an extremely dangerous trend that can lead to serious health problems and even death. If you’re going to use pre-workout supplements, be sure you’re doing so appropriately.
