Critical Role’s Matt Mercer will be hosting a special Elding Ring one-shot tabletop adventure on Twitch, which sounds like exactly the kind of thing many want to listen to while running around a swamp with a giant longsword.
Of course, Mercer and voice actors Laura Bailey, Taliesin Jaffe, Ashley Johnson, Liam O’Brien, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel, and Tavis Willingham co-created the wildly popular actual play troupe Critical Role. Later this month, the group will play Dungeons & Dragons together for the seventh time, and it is also celebrating the success of the first season of its Prime Streaming animated series. As a game master, Mercer is at the pinnacle of his abilities, and the show, which is sponsored by Elder Ring publisher Bandai Namco, promises to be something special.
Ray and Riegel will be joining Mercer on the show. Some other highly experienced role-players are also down to clown on the fantastically opaque game world — created by game director Hidetaka Miyazaki with a little help from Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin. Krystina Arielle (The High Republic Show, Dimension 20, and Into The Mother Lands), Brennan Lee Mulligan (College Humor, Dimension 20), and actor Alexander Ward are among them.
This isn’t the first time Critical Role has done a one-shot based on a video game; a Diablo adventure aired at Blizzcon last year. The Elden Ring one-shot begins at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1. PST on Twitch and YouTube, with a replay starting on Thursday and a podcast starting on Tuesday, March 8th.
