Hoppus announced before that he was diagnosed with cancer and in September that he had completed five rounds of chemotherapy and was cancer-free.
After months of chemotherapy, Mark Hoppus is grateful for his health.
The Blink-182 bassist and co-lead vocalist shared a photo of himself showing him sitting in front of the toilet while undergoing chemotherapy before informing his fans that he was cancer-free in September, saying that he has a lot to be thankful for and showing a photo of himself from June, relegated to the bathroom floor, retching.
He went on to say that if he ever complains about something minor or insignificant, please show him the photo to remind him of how bad things can be and how truly fortunate he is, and that he wished everyone a wonderful day with friends and family.
Hoppus announced in June that he was diagnosed with stage 4 diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. It’s one of the most common non-lymphoma Hodgkin’s subtypes.
During a Twitch livestream the following month, he revealed more about his cancer, vowing at the time that he’s focused on “beating this cancer.”
Hoppus announced in September that he was cancer-free.
He stated that he had recently seen his oncologist and that he is now cancer-free. He expressed gratitude to God, the universe, his friends and family, as well as everyone who sent him support, kindness, and love.
Hoppus went on to say that he still has to be scanned every six months and that he won’t be back to normal until the end of the year, but that day was truly amazing and he felt so blessed.
Hoppus made his comeback to the stage in late October, performing at Barker’s House of Horrors with Blink-182 bandmate Travis Barker for Halloween.
In an interview with event organizer NoCap, Barker praised Hoppus’ courage, calling his recovery “the best news all year.”
Barker proudly said that Mark is playing a few songs and is just incredible, and he’s been with him throughout the entire process, and he’s just been so strong, resilient, and tough, and he just told him to elbows up and fight, and he did, and it’s amazing.
