During the ReadyUp CSGO Invitational on Twitch, Twitch streamers Brian “Kephrii” St. Pierre and Gale Adelaide were accused of cheating.
Despite FACEIT’s conclusion that there was no foul play, Kephrii was disqualified from the competition as a result of numerous other players’ complaints so that the competition could be concluded. It claims that a number of other players are still wary of the alleged teaming. A formal statement has not yet been made public.
The esports world strongly disapproves of cheating. Cheating can be a serious offense leading to an immediate ban from the competition and future events, with thousands of dollars in prize pools across hundreds of tournaments. Nevertheless, this doesn’t deter gamblers in the esports world.
The $100,000 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive ReadyUp Invitational tournament was rigged on July 30, 2022, according to Twitch streamers Brian “Kephrii” St. Pierre and Gale Adelaide, who are well-known in the Overwatch community. Two rival players became suspicious of Kephrii’s actions in-game, which led to the accusations.
A competition called the ReadyUP CSGO Invitational is put on by Twitch in cooperation with Sony’s INZONE gaming systems. The competition offered many rewards for participants to earn by competing against other teams in addition to a grand prize pool of $100,000.
The competition had a point system where players and teams could win by accumulating the most points, though the rules were not entirely clear.
The basic rule was that participants received one point for killing an enemy, two points for helping an enemy, and five points for using a knife to kill an enemy.
It is claimed that Kephrii and Gale were working together and sharing knife kills. Both were allegedly giving each other five points for each kill. Despite knife eliminations being a difficult task, particularly when footsteps are obvious, and despite team communication, Kephrii still had no idea how it had happened.
Both teams were playing on Mirage, and Kephrii explained his decision to use the knife by saying that, while he was holding the catwalk and didn’t hear Gale drop from Apartment, he had the impression that players make noise when they fall from Apartment.
Kephrii claimed he didn’t hear the noise, so he turned away without looking.
These accusations would have been quickly disproved if Gale had only killed Kephrii with one knife. But it wasn’t; instead, in a single game, the players traded five knife kills. Gale allegedly received three knife kills from Kephrii in the eleventh round, earning her fifteen tournament points.
Kephrii has been eliminated from the competition as of the time this article was written. Both players have additionally experienced significant backlash. Twitch or Sony Corporation have not yet responded to these accusations. We’ll do our best to keep you informed of any new developments.
