As we begin to see how Instagram is attempting to be an all-in-one app, we notice that one of the most recent features it is working on is the addition of moderators to Live broadcasts. As a result, content creators on the platform will be able to control the chat function, similar to what Twitch has been doing for a while.

Alessandro Paluzzi, a reverse engineer and lecturer, tweeted that Instagram is currently working on adding moderators to Live, along with screenshots of what the feature will look like. According to the screenshots, the option to add a moderator for your Live broadcasts will be located in the options section, above other options such as “Turn off commenting” and “Turn off requests to go Live.”

Personally, I don’t watch many Instagram Live broadcasts. However, when I do, popular Live subjects such as musicians and Hollywood actors frequently turn off the chat function or ignore it entirely. I don’t blame them—fans can be obnoxious, and it can be exhausting to entertain while also trying to keep the chat under control.

Adding moderators can aid in the removal of messages, links, and spam that would otherwise detract from the chat experience. Mods would have their own special “badge” on Twitch to help show the chat who they are when they post in the chatroom.

Instagram will only allow users to add one moderator to a Live video, according to Paluzzi. It should suffice for Instagram Live, which can be a little more casual than a Twitch stream. Twitter’s own live feature, Spaces, allows you to add two more co-hosts to help moderate the conversation.

Instagram is also introducing a “paid subscription” feature called OnlyFans style. It’s a way for content creators to profit from their work.
