Navy Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) is hosting six multiplayer esports tournaments featuring the recently released Halo Infinite just in time for the holidays.
This month, Sailors and other authorized Navy MWR patrons from all over the world can compete in six live tournaments to experience the next installment in the Halo series. The highly anticipated Halo Infinite is now available for download for free, and it features the return of the game’s protagonist, Master Chief.
Branch head of the Fleet and Family Readiness Marketing and Communications Branch of Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) Refugio Orozco said that he believe the entire military esports ecosystem has come full circle with the announcement of the Halo Infinite multiplayer title and he say that because Halo 5 was the first game he worked on when they launched one of the first service member tournaments in 2015.
They were simply trying to add a competitive element to gaming for service members at the time. He’d say they’ve been very successful in that area and beyond.
The previous Navy MWR esports series, which was streamed on Twitch over the summer, featured the game Apex Legends. Fans of esports from all over the world tuned in to watch 14.5 million minutes of action.
Manager of the CNIC’s Fleet and Family Readiness Community Recreation Program Brooke Haley said that their Navy MWR esports program will continue to grow and support Sailors’ lethality while providing a recreation outlet that enhances readiness, resiliency, cognitive skills, and showcases the talents of participants.
Competitors in the Halo Infinite multiplayer tournaments will compete for a chance to win a custom Navy MWR esports jersey as well as a $150 gift card! The second-place prize is a $100 gift card, but the prizes do not end there.
