College lecturers at prestigious American universities are reportedly using HasanAbi, a political analyst and Twitch streamer, in instructional videos.

“HasanAbi” Piker is a self-described socialist who is renowned for his progressive perspective on current events. With more than 2.4 million followers, he enjoys a sizable following on the Amazon-owned platform. With an average concurrent audience of 32.6K over the past 30 years, Twitch Tracker now ranks him as the No. 5 English streamer. Piker responded to a tweet sent by one of his editors with the following caption after videos of his TikToks being played by a professor became viral: “Worth the 100K tuition”

The American-Turkish streamer, who frequently discusses American politics, is well recognized for his outspoken opinions on social issues. His opinions have regularly put him at odds with other content producers. For example, he directly called out GreekGodx for disseminating anti-vaccination conspiracies at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. He draws sizable left-leaning crowds to his streams where he discusses current events and is an enthusiastic proponent of universal healthcare and other progressive initiatives. For those who follow HasanAbi, his criticism of capitalism and capitalist talking points comes as no surprise.

But when videos showing his TikTok being utilized in a college lesson went viral on social media, many of his admirers were taken aback. Many made fun of the fact that institutions charge students upwards of $10K in tuition each semester just to show them videos in class that could be viewed with or without a Twitch channel subscription from HasanAbi.

A other video that was released by Twitter user “Jacob Pincus” was also widely shared. The tweet’s title implies that the University of South California School of Cinematic Arts is where the lesson is taking place. The clip talks about business owners and their relational power over employees. The post received many other comments from people claiming to know the professor, who teaches a class on streaming and content creation.
