Being a Twitch streamer appears to be a great way to make money and get recognition with a minimal entry barrier. However, as numerous streamers who have lately left Twitch have demonstrated, it is not necessarily the dream career it appears to be.
Twitch streamer Hasan Piker is the latest to voice his dissatisfaction with the platform, revealing that he’s considering quitting, at least temporarily. The biggest issue, according to the prominent Twitch streamer, is hostile people inside his community. Multiple episodes of doxing, harassment, and swatting were allegedly directed towards Hasan and his family.
During a live stream on October 28th, Hasan expressed his natural frustrations. When a member of his community asked if he was serious, he responded, “It’s not a joke. I’m very close to quitting streaming for a little bit… These past couple of days, I’ve been thinking about it. It doesn’t feel good when I stream anymore.” He then pulled a comment out of the live chat and used it as an example of his hostile community.
Hasan expressed his dissatisfaction with the amount of stress his community places on him, claiming that he has difficulties sleeping and is constantly upset, striking out at others around him. Part of this is due to his belief that he can no longer communicate openly with his community.
Before expressing his continual frustration, the 30-year-old Twitch streamer said that he’d been regularly doxed and swatted. During a live performance on October 29th a visibly upset Hasan brought it up again. According to Hasan, crazy trolls have summoned swat teams to his home, a deadly hoax that has resulted in several individuals being hurt or killed over the years.
Hasan also said that his toxic fan group had harassed several members of his family.
Regardless of one’s feelings towards Hasan as a person, streamer, or political commentator, the harassment he faces is way beyond what anyone should consider acceptable. As a result, it’s not unexpected that the Twitch streamer is considering leaving the platform.
