This weekend, Twitch streamers are hosting a leather weekend, because why not?

Two Twitch streamers are bringing the community together online, inspired by the Folsom Street Fairs that took place in Berlin and San Francisco in September.

Streamers are invited to wear their gear on-stream with pride during the Leather Pride Weekend, which runs from September 24-26 — within Twitch’s terms of service, of course.

Through support, resources, education, advocacy, and awareness for Leather, BDSM, Kink, and Alternative Lifestyles, Streamers will celebrate leather diversity, culture, and community.

Streamers will use the hashtag #TwitchLeatherWeekend to promote the event, which will include everything from lycra to lace and everything in between.

“It was all about raising awareness and demonstrating that kink creators and their communities have a place on Twitch,” explains streamer DCypherPup, who co-organized the event alongside Dawgnet.

“During the pandemic, Twitch has become a safe haven for members of the LGBTQIA2S+ groups as well as those who support them,” he says. Particularly because the customary safe areas, such as bars and clubs, have recently been unavailable.

“New communities have sprung up as a result of this online movement, and the Leather/Fetish/Kink communities are no exception.”

Hate raids are currently taking place around Twitch against minority communities, but the Leather Pride Weekend will go on proudly.

“Even while it makes us more vulnerable to those who wish us harm,” DCypherPup explained. “It ensures that our corner of the platform stays with us so we can help it grow into a location where like-minded individuals may come together and be welcomed.”
