EA SPORTS has announced that FIFA, the company’s flagship football video game series, will be renamed EA SPORTS FC.

The announcement comes months after the developers went public with their disagreement with FIFA over the exclusivity of their official licensing.

The writing has been on the wall for some time after quotes from an internal meeting with staff were reported, in which EA CEO Andrew Wilson claimed the video game was arguably bigger than FIFA itself.

Cam Weber, Executive Vice President, and Group GM, EA SPORTS at Electronic Arts, rubbed stamped the rebrand on May 10th.

Electronic Arts announced a new “independent platform” on their website, promising it would be a turning point for the franchise.

In Summer 2023, fans can expect to hear more about EA SPORTS FC, implying that the next title will almost certainly be called FIFA 23.

In name only, the final FIFA game in the series promises to be the most expansive ever seen. Following the release of FIFA 23, the developers plan to embark on a new journey that will include more game modes and FIFA World Cup content than ever before.
