The most popular female streamer on Twitch, Imane Anys aka Pokimane has talked about how female streamers have come a long way and contributed to the growth of the esports fraternity.
Twitch streamer Pokimane, the number one most followed female streamer on Twitch, has recently returned to streaming after her short break. She is, without a doubt, one of the most popular streamers right now, with over 8.2 million followers on the Amazon-owned streaming platform.
However, her rise to the apex was full of hurdles, as she was subjected to misogynistic comments on multiple occasions.
During her most recent live broadcast, Pokimane recounted and described an event where a female streamer added fuel to such comments by boosting her League of Legends account. But then it led Pokimane to the realization that she was grateful for how far female gamers and streamers have come, given the fact there are so many legit ones today. Pokimane shares that there was a streamer on her friends list that boosted her LoL account, which elicited a lot of misogynistic comments from viewers.
Pokimane refused to reveal the streamer’s name; “Back then the misogyny within gaming was like whatever you see now times ten. So, to have someone do that, it’s like you’re furthering the stereotype. I’m glad there is much less of this kind of thing and there are so many really, really legit female streamers and gamers.” However, that doesn’t mean it’s all sunshine and rainbows. Poki explained that she still experiences hardships from time to time, and there’s a long way to go.
