Rafe Gomez, a nationally renowned radio mix show DJ, club DJ, and music producer, will premiere “Danceteria REWIND” on the Twitch live streaming platform on Thursday, February 10 at 8:00 p.m.
The “Danceteria REWIND” will be a two-hour tribute weekly to the innovative music mix of Danceteria, which was one of Manhattan’s most popular and influential nightclubs in the 1980s.
Between 1979 and 1986, Danceteria was located in Manhattan. Its four floors at 30 W.21st Street featured live music, video exhibits, art exhibits, multiple simultaneous DJ sets, and one of the city’s most colorful crowds.
“The Groove Boutique,” will be DJed and hosted by Rafe Gomez, and it is a syndicated mix show that aired on terrestrial radio stations across the United States in the 2000s, and was a finalist in the 2005 New York Air Awards for Best Mix Show in the Tri-State Area Market. He also performed in clubs across the country, hosted QVC music, and co-produced the Chill Jazz Remix of Smokey Robinson’s “Quiet Storm” on the album Motown Remixed with Roy Ayers.
Along with the appeal of “Danceteria REWIND” for fans of 80s music and nightclubbing, Gomez believes the livestreamed mix show will appeal to younger ears, particularly those who are familiar with and enjoy DJ mix presentations.
