Today, YouTuber Destiny dug into an old video of another online political commentator HasanAbi, and it didn’t take long for the fiery creator to identify an issue with the counterpoint to criticize.
Hasan discussed communist ideals in a stream from late May of last year, and at one point remarked that he lives on a “basic necessity budget.” Destiny and his chat immediately questioned the veracity of such assertion. Destiny remarked, “I don’t even know if I’d say I live on a basic necessity budget. Because my rent is so high, and I know my expenses are one-tenth. Didn’t this guy just buy a $150,000 car? … How often do you think he Door Dashes food on his ‘basic necessity budget.’ How much do this guy’s clothes cost? What part of this guy’s lifestyle is a ‘basic necessity budget?’”
Hasan often shows awareness of his position and makes an effort to educate the audience about problems with the way society marginalizes particular groups of people. On that particular day, his remarks undoubtedly came out as out of touch, and even then, his viewers made it clear to him. Hasan tried to defend himself against a viewer who brought up how much money he spent on meals as the video went on. Hasan didn’t do himself any favors when he said that his “barebones” spending plan was his method of demonstrating that he was “living within [his] means” in an effort to further defend himself.
Finding the idea humorous, Destiny remarked that he was having trouble deciding which portion of his remarks should be edited the most. He said; “This is like a goldmine of just the most out-of-touch socialist fucking shit.”
