Squid Game is swiftly establishing itself as one of Netflix’s most popular series. It’s so popular, in fact, that it’s propelling their stock to new heights. Netflix subscribers aren’t the only ones who like it. The internet, too, can’t get enough of it.
Not only has it gone viral on TikTok, but Twitch streamers such as Felix ‘xQc’ Lengyel have been experimenting with a horrifying custom mode based on the show.
But it isn’t just gamers who have taken up the tasks. People do it in the real world as well. One of such people is Bryce Hall. Rather than taking part in it personally, he organized an entire event with prize money.
“Welcome to the Squid Games,” he stated in a YouTube video at the opening of the tournament. “I’ve set three goals for everyone. The winner does receive a monetary award, but it is not $20 million; instead, it is $2000.”
Challenge #1: Red Light, Green Light
‘Red Light, Green Light’ was the first task. The regulations were straightforward. Contestants needed to move towards the finish line as soon as he declared green light. They had to come to a halt when he yelled at the red light. If they didn’t, they’d be eliminated after being shot with a paintball gun.
In the first round, just three participants were eliminated. So they tried it again, this time catching even more fish. They may have been able to escape with their lives intact. They did, however, acquire a couple minor bruises.
Challenge #2: Tug-Of-War
The tug-of-war was the second task. There was a pool instead of a big pit separating teams in each round.
Those who failed to win the struggle and fell into the pool were eliminated, and those who attempted to flee were shot with the paintball gun.
Challenge #3: Sumo Wrestling
In comparison to the first challenge, far more people were eliminated. Only six athletes made it to the final round, which was Sumo Wrestling. It wasn’t the same as the show’s final challenge, but they made it work.
David and Goliath were pitted against each other. A hefty ex-football player faced off against an elusive underdog, and the latter emerged victorious after a spectacular confrontation. It was a “controversial” victory, according to Byrce.
Bryce’s fans were ecstatic at every turn. They praised him for creating content that is relevant to current interests and trends, and Squid Games is currently in the spotlight.
On September 17, 2021, Netflix premiered the series. It has gotten positive reviews from critics and spectators alike.
