Popular Twitch streamer Asmongold explains why he stopped playing a popular Korean MMO called Black Desert Online when it first came out.
Twitch streamers are known for switching games frequently. These spikes are usually self-explanatory, owing to factors such as a new game’s release, an old game’s expiration date, or Twitch streamers on the hunt for the next big thing. Asmongold, who is well-known for his Twitch MMO streaming, is always willing to talk about why he stops playing one game and starts another. Asmongold did just that in a recent broadcast, explaining why he stopped playing the MMO Black Desert Online a long time ago.
When Black Desert Online was released in the west in 2016, Asmongold jumped at the chance to try it out while still streaming World of Warcraft, which was his bread and butter. According to Asmongold, he even joined a “sweaty” guild called Gravity, which took the game very seriously and competed. Asmongold explains that this is what he looks for in an MMO, but that in this case, he was forced to make a difficult choice.
Asmongold was being pulled in too many directions at the same time. His Black Desert Online guild expected him to devote himself to the game, performing Sieges and practicing for Sieges, among other important tasks for a top-tier competitive player.
Balancing Black Desert Online with his other obligations, such as streaming and playing World of Warcraft, was “exhausting” and “too much” for Asmongold. As a result, he decided to leave.
Asmongold also discussed the option of simply playing Black Desert Online for fun rather than abandoning it entirely. However, the Twitch streamer clarified that he does not do so. If he’s playing something, he wants to put everything into it, and if he can’t, he’d rather quit. That’s why, rather than playing Black Desert Online casually when he wasn’t focused on World of Warcraft, Asmongold eventually left the game.
There were probably other factors that led to Asmongold’s decision to leave Black Desert Online that he didn’t mention. On Twitch, Asmongold would have been persuaded to stick with Black Desert Online if it was more popular than World of Warcraft. Asmongold also failed to mention whether or not he liked Black Desert Online.
Regardless, one of Asmongold’s strengths as a Twitch streamer is his willingness to share his thoughts on all of the games he plays. His candor and frankness may turn some people off, but it’s why Asmongold’s audience sticks with him. This can also be seen in his recent thoughts on World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy 14.
