On his stream, Zack “Asmongold” recently discussed the upcoming animated series based on the popular 2022 action-roguelike Vampire Survivors and expressed his admiration for the collaborators the developers were working with.
The streamer seemed somewhat astonished that the game was receiving an animated program when he broke the news to his audience. However, his response changed when he discovered that the project was being led by the John Wick creators. Here is how he first responded to the information: “Um, I don’t really even know how to say this, but Vampire Survivors is getting an animated show. That’s right, yes, they are actually doing an animated show.”
After Asmongold learned who would be working on the game, the surprise turned to shock. It appears that the adaptation will be made by the John Wick creators and a producer of the Sonic movies. After reading the news release, the co-founder of OTK responded as follows: “… we[the developers] are partnering up with a company called Story Kitchen. Their team includes Derek Kolstad who is the writer and creator of John [Wick]… Bro look at this. They got the guy that made John Wick and the guy that produced the Sonic films working on it. What the f*ck! This is like… that’s so badass I can’t believe this!”
The streamer also contrasted Castlevania’s new Netflix adaptation to Vampire Survivors and questioned whether the game’s designers had played it before deciding to base an animated series on it. “I wonder if like these guys played the game and were like, ‘This is really cool. These characters are kind of cool. What if we did a show like this kind of like Castlevania on Netflix.’ I wonder what happened.”
Minutes afterwards, Asmongold saw a report in which Dimitri M. Johnson, the CEO of the business assisting the creators of Vampire Survivors, was quoted as saying: “When our head of creative, Dan Jevons, flagged Vampire Survivors for us last year upon its initial release, we were prepared to dismiss it as just another vampire game. Hundreds of hours played later, we were all hooked, and we just could not get enough…”
The possibility of a gamer who was a true enthusiast adapting to the game thrilled the streamer. While watching the trailer for Vampire Survivors: Legacy of the Moonspell, he even made a promise to his viewers that he would replay the game. “Play it again? I will play it again.”
It should be noted that Asmongold expressed his admiration for the animated sections of the teaser and said he wouldn’t object to the next TV show’s visual aesthetic. “I wonder if it’s going to be this style or what. ‘Cus I’m glad it’s going to be animated. That is so crazy.”
