While they work on a fix, Respawn Entertainment has had to remove the original Apex Legends map, Kings Canyon, from the game. After the 1.91 updates, the map was responsible for a large number of server errors.
Respawn released a small Apex Legends update across all platforms on Monday, March 14th. There were no patch notes because this was a minor update, so players could continue as usual.
However, it was clear soon after the update that something was wrong, as matches were frequently ending prematurely, with players being kicked and receiving a server error message. Caustic’s town takeover on the map is thought to be the cause of the problem, with servers crashing as soon as his gas was released.
The problem was widespread, affecting players across all platforms, and while you could join a game, you couldn’t stay in it for very long. Respawn acknowledged the problem a few hours later and said they were working on a fix, but players would have to wait. To avoid any further crashing, Kings Canyon was eventually removed from rotation.
There’s no word on when Kings Canyon will be re-enabled, but it’ll only be a band-aid solution until the issue with Caustic’s takeover, or any other potential causes, is resolved.
It means Apex will only have two maps in rotation for the time being – Olympus and Storm Point – with World’s Edge out for at least the rest of Season 12. Respawn is also working on a number of other Apex bugs, such as Loba being nerfed by accident and heirlooms slowing you down on ziplines.
