The well-known Twitch streamer and co-owner of OTK, Emily “Emiru,” declared that she would stop hosting streaming that focus on drinking alcohol during her most recent stream on April 30.
After a Q&A livestream where she took a shot whenever she didn’t respond to a question, many viewers expressed concerns that led to this decision. Despite not having a drinking problem, Emiru took her audience’s worries seriously because she knew that many people were susceptible to substance abuse. She remarked: “Don’t want to worry people.”
Although drinking alcohol is not prohibited on Twitch, Emiru acknowledged that many people have addiction and drinking issues. In response to the distressing responses from her viewers, she declared: “The last stream I did, where I was doing like, taking a shot every time I don’t answer a question, I saw a lot of people who were genuinely worried. Like, think I just like, drink all the time off stream or saying I’m like, gonna ruin my life or whatever. I just thought it would be fun, but I don’t want to worry people.”
Emiru claimed that she felt uneasy due to the frequent conversations of substance misuse among viewers. They convinced her to give up stream drinking, at least when she is traveling alone: “So, I’m probably not gonna do any more solo drinking streams. Not that I did many in the first place, but I don’t want it to be like, weird especially cause people were bringing it up other people who have had issues with substance abuse.”
