Twitch streamer Asmongold has left Diablo Immortal and explained why.
On the former platform, the YouTube and Twitch star has over 1 million subscribers, and he has been playing the game since its release. Of course, Diablo Immortal has received a lot of flak for its aggressive monetisation and microtransactions.
The game, developed by Blizzard, has the lowest-ever Metacritic user score for the company, with only 0.5 out of 4,875 ratings.
We’ve previously reported on how remarkably monetised the game is, with one streamer spending over £5,000 and receiving only one Legendary Gem, the best Gem in the game.
Naturally, Asmongold has criticized the game’s monetisation, but he has also stated that he is not quitting because of it. He called the game a “predatory” example of pay-to-win games, claiming that it was littered with “enticing deals” designed to entice people to spend money.
However, he claims that the “garbage” gameplay is the main reason for his departure.
Asmongold said in a YouTube video that Diablo Immortal is garbage, With or without pay to win, it’s garbage. They made no attempt to make the game more innovative, change its design, or make it anything other than it was.
He also claims that the developers have failed to innovate since the release of Diablo 3 a decade ago in 2012. In fact, Asmongold has stated that the game is “depressing” to him. Given Asmongold’s popularity, this appears to be a major setback for Blizzard.
