After the game’s servers went down tonight, Call of Duty Warzone leaked the IP addresses of a number of streamers.
Warzone is currently beset by issues, and a brief server outage appears to be the least of our concerns. All Call of Duty servers for Warzone, Vanguard, Modern Warfare, and Black Ops Cold War appeared to go down just hours ago.
Although many streamers were eagerly anticipating the return of the Battle Royale, doing so proved to be a risky move. When the game was finally playable again, Warzone made the IP addresses of streamers visible to their audiences.
Keeping personal information private is important for streamers. It may seem strange for a gamer to regularly broadcast themselves over the internet, but a leak of this magnitude is serious business.
After all, while an IP address may be meaningless to most viewers, this leak could have serious consequences. The IP address could be used by malicious hackers to launch a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack and knock the streamer offline.
After a series of brute force attempts, the hacker may be able to gain access to hardware running on the IP address.
